I've lived in Seattle, Washington, all my life, and I've seen it in many stages throughout my 20 something years. Amazon, in particular, has caused this city to change architecturally drastically. Glass skyscrapers take the place of charming brick buildings and Ma & Pop shops. Much of what made this city so cool and rich has been torn away to make a more generic cityscape. In my

Freshman year of college, I was assigned a final of creating a piece based on a place in Washington. I had picked Pike Place Market/ the Seattle Waterfront, which my professor reasonably pointed out has been overdone. I chose these places not because they're fantastic tourist attractions but because of their timeless nature. The city is constantly changing, but these areas always stay more or less the same, and I find comfort in that. I like that I can go anywhere there and think of multiple memories from different stages in my life. People from Seattle are notoriously nostalgic, and I am no exception. I decided to highlight these iconic places through the lens of my nostalgia and memories. I made three large prints with drawings of me as a kid and elements of memories to overlay pictures taken in the present time. I also took a series of Polaroids to display, with the prints adding to the feeling of nostalgia and timelessness.
