Jewelry on a Journey Through time
About
The creation of jewelry used to be a medium I specialized in for many years before attending Cornish. Since coming here, I had been preoccupied with the pursuit of many other mediums, but jewelry fell off my radar. I have experience in extensively researching specific designs within jewelry and how to achieve them. However, I have never thought to research the initial traditions throughout the history of the practice and their reasoning. I thought it could be interesting to come back to jewelry after building a fine arts background of skills over the last two years. I have typically considered jewelry aesthetically above anything else in the past, so I find it exciting to think about it more conceptually.
After crafting three pieces and constructing a vision for the series, I have decided to present the project as a work in progress. I ultimately wanted to research periods and different regions, creating a piece for each one. I want the chance to explore this further before presenting it as finished. Also, part of the piece's presentation that I would like to achieve is creating fashion editorial style shots of each piece inspired by the popular methods of jewelry presentation in the modern age. Due mainly to COVID and time, I have constructed concept boards for the vision of each editorial image of each piece and a mock-up of how I would present this in a traditional gallery space.
